Did You Know?: Exercise: An Hour Per Day
Exercise an hour a day? Disappointing news, for those of us who thought 30 minutes a day would cut it. But according to a recent study, an hour a day is really what's necessary to keep the weight off.
Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh studied 200 overweight and obese women. Over two years, the women who exercised the most and stuck to their diets lost the most weight, and kept it off.
To get into some numbers, these women burned around 1800 calories per week by exercising 275 minutes per week—that’s an average of 55 minutes per day for five days.
The study doesn’t get into how much daily exercise you need if you’re not overweight or obese. There’s no consensus on this. But it’s generally agreed that for heart health and overall fitness -- the more exercise you get, the better.
And now you know.
